This problem only concerns mulit-segment K footnotes (used to create the index). The problem does not exist in Word 97, but since we need Word 95 to prevent Help compilation problems, we have to find a way out. To see everything on this file, make sure to display the hidden characters as well.
Problem:
You are at the top of the page and your cursor is in front of the K footnote symbol. You select Open/Get to translate the K footnote. Result: K footnotes in multiple segments are not properly displayed: only the first segment of the footnote is displayed and can be accessed/translated. (Thus resulting in a non accurate memory.) See below:
K Find Item dialog box (Desktop View),

Solution:
In order to have all K footnote segments accessible in the target fields and to use the advantages of the memory fully, we suggest the following:
Work in page layout. This is important. Otherwise the solution for the K footnotes does not 100% work.
Scroll down to the K footnote at the bottom of the page. (Or double-click the K symbol.)
Insert an additional return after the last segment/line of the K footnote on every page where a K footnote appears.
Move the cursor right after the K symbol in the first footnote segment.
Click Open Get.
Translate (or accept the suggestion from the memory).
Click Set Close Open Get. The next segment opens.
Translate, click Set Close Open Get until you are finished with the K footnotes.
When you are finished with the translation of the last K footnote segment, click Set Close.
(It is important to click Set close and NOT Set Close Open Get, otherwise you’ll get an error message.)
Result:
translation of footnote
translation of footnote
translation of footnote
translation of footnote
Scroll up the page and place the cursor in front of the next segment to translate. Click Open Get and continue as usual.
Alternatively you might consider going over the same file twice:
Once only for the K footnotes (as described above). This has to be done in Page View.
Then for all remaining segments. This can be done in Normal view, which you might prefer since it displays a bigger portion of the page.
OR translate the „normal“ segments first and then do the K footnotes. The order does not matter.
