Few days ago we had another important feast day in our calendar. Every year translators all over the world celebrate this day. The International TranslationDay is celebrated on September 30, because this day marks the death of the patron of translators which is St. Jerome.
St. Jerome is mostly known for his translation of the Bible into Latin language. He was also an important Christian writer, one of the Fathers and teachersof the Church and theologian.
International Federation of Translators FIT announces motto every year on the occasion of the feast of translators and interpreters. This year it is: Translation as Intercultural Communication.
What is actually FIT?
FIT (the Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs/International Federation of Translators) is an international grouping of associations of translators, interpreters and terminologists. More than 100 professional associations are affiliated, representing over 80 000 translators in 55 countries. The goal of the Federation is to promote professionalism in the disciplines it represents. International Federation of Translatorswas founded in 1953 which means that this year it is their 60thanniversary.
Interpreters and translators in the world today are relatively important profession, because the whole world is globalized and in many cases we can not do without translation.
